HONOLULU, Hawai‘i — Governor Josh Green, HDOT Director Ed Sniffen, and U.S. Army Garrison Hawai‘i Commander Col. Steve McGunegle announced a 50-year lease agreement for Kawaihāpai Airfield, formerly Dillingham Airfield. This lease ensures the airfield’s continued operation, vital for the North Shore economy, and addresses infrastructure and water service needs.
The agreement, resulting from a collaborative effort among the state, the Army, and community stakeholders, includes Aqua Engineers managing the Dillingham Public Water System. This allows for federal grants to support airfield improvements. The lease highlights the partnership’s success in supporting both civilian and military uses, ensuring long-term viability for the airfield.
