On the eve of Okinawa Memorial Day, more than 60 U.S. Navy service members and families teamed up with local volunteers to display nearly 7,000 candles at Okinawa's Peace Memorial Park. This gesture honors the memory of the hundreds of thousands of Japanese and American lives lost in the 1945 Battle of Okinawa, the deadliest battle of the Pacific War.
